A lovely video from Emily Dolan Davies who took time out after touring with Kim Wilde and before playing drums on the TV programme ‘The Kids’ Voice' to express her gratitude for featuring her drumming on one of my tracks. What a nice person!

‘Shenandoah’ - a traditional song.

I’ve taken the inspiration for the arrangement of this American folk song from the one and only Liam Clancy, who Bob Dylan regarded as the ‘greatest ballad singer ever’! Not trying to emulate exactly an Irish arrangement but ‘in the style of’ shall we say.

I hope this version wouldn't have been placed in Ewan MacColl's 'Chamber of Horrors' but I expect it would have been! Inspiration from Roberta Flack's version.

Where Fools Inhabit

Don't ask me! There I was in a slow, bluesy, old beat up piano kind of mood when something overtook the process. Imagine Todd Rundgren a la 'Bat Out of Hell' meets Brian May's 'Red Special' and you'll get the idea. 'At the end of the day Brian, it's a game of two halves (J.G.)'.

Ambling around the fields picking up horse s**t gets me into a meditative state where I ponder. I think! Therefore, I am! According to René anyway. Mmm…I wonder!

The Wings of a Butterfly (From the Archive)

James Hawken, Toby Banks

Out of the blue an ol' mucker Toby Banks (Mumbo) posted something very dear to me on social media. In our conversation Tobe mentioned that he performs a song of mine that I had forgotten I wrote called 'The Wings of a Butterfly'. Tobe had a recording of him singing it from 30 years ago. He sang it beautifully. I 'grabbed' his vocals and did this!

I thought it was time to create a Cornish anthem. Imagery of Cornish tales, prominent people, landscape and language blend to conjure the breadth and beauty of our culture and the essence to be Cornish.
